Michael Mitrow’s Instructions on Caring for Skiing to the Equipment

Michael Mitrow and his family enjoy skiing and know how important it is to take proper care of your skiing equipment. When returning home with your ski equipment to put it away for the summer, Michael Mitrow has a few suggestions for how to properly care for your equipment so it will last many years.

According to Michael Mitrow, skis should be waxed at least once per year, preferably after every 10-15 days of use. Waxing skis is a fairly simple procedure. Michael Mitrow suggests purchasing a cheap iron, some wax, and a scraper for home use rather than paying a professional to wax your skis. The simplest way to wax skis is to drip wax onto the board and then to move the iron around to melt the wax and push it across the base of the skis. Once the wax is melted, Michael Mitrow advises that it will need to dry for 15 minutes before scraping it off with a plastic scraper.

Once your skis are properly waxed, you will need to sharpen the edges. Normally, this is done after every wax, but can be done more often if you get nicks in your edges from hitting stones on the trail. Michael Mitrow says to sharpen the edges of skis you will need to use an oxide stone or a diamond stone to smooth out small dings from the edge of your skis.

According to Michael Mitrow, by taking proper care of your skis you'll get many years of use and enjoyment out of them.
